From a Whisper to a Scream

The episode may have been called “From a Whisper to a Scream” – but I think “Betrayal” might have been better-suited.
Everything about this episode screamed that.
I know I lost my bet (with myself) that a nurse would be the one to eventually bust Burke… Then I thought it would be Bailey. Even with the tremor scene in the fishing outdoors episode, I didn’t see it coming that George would turn out to be such a beast. (Good for him, though. I liked it that he wasn’t a wuss when it came to his father’s health.)
But Cristina?
Et tu Brute?

Betrayal. Lies. Secrets.

This was a very interesting episode regarding trust, lies and betrayal. I still believe that Cristina has been carrying the burden of Burke's secret simply because she wants to be attached to Burke the great surgeon. Her ambition has driven this obsession. However, I believe Burke became very dependent on her so he is just as much at fault as she is. But, when he finally crossed her and broke up the team, she didn't even bother to remove her bloody clothes as she made a bee-line for Richard. He broke her trust, so she broke his. Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned.

The play on how people keep, tell and hold secrets was great. Cristina worked so hard to contain all of her secrets, while Izzie just spilled her guts about everything! And Callie thought that Meredith had told George about McSteamy which led to a great girlfight!! It reminded me of junior high! The deception and lies just kept spilling out of everyone! Lies just get bigger and bigger don't they? I think I actually took a deep breath when they showed Cristina outing Burke. Finally, a resolution to the stress even if it meant Burke's demise as Chief.

Okay, so what was that long look between Alex and Addison? Are they a pair in the making? Should they be? I predict if they get together, we will probably see the return of mean Alex and a major rivalry with McSteamy.

Staring at the Sun

Isn't it true that you can start a day out bright and shiny and end it dull and lifeless? Every new day brings new possibilities in life but somehow life creeps in - the good and the bad - and can change the whole beginning. I have days like that all the time!

But....on to the other theme of the show: Work & Family. How many of you working moms out there were ready to quit your full-time job after watching this show? I am a full-time working mom and don't have a nanny for precisely the reason we saw in this episode - I don't want my kids to prefer someone else. It is my blind spot, because truthfully, my kids spend their entire day 7:30a-6p in the care of many others, just not one particular other. I loved that Bailey called home to wake up her child to sing to him... she is scared to death of being #2 in that child's life. I was happy to see that the mom finally gave in to her own needs to fulfill the needs of her injured child. The nanny was clearly more distraught over the accident than the mom..the mom was only concerned with who the child loved more.

George and family: he also has conflicts with work and family - nobody in his family believes that he is a good doctor. They refuse to listen to him.

Richard and family: he has to make a choice to get his wife back, yet he will probably not leave the hospital. He loves the hospital too much. More than family.

I was a bit bothered by Derek's gloating to Addison about how happy he was now that they were divorced. It seemed so cruel and Addison didn't even seem to react to it. Is she so damaged now that she feels nothing? She is my favorite character on the show now. I don't know why, I just really like her.

One thing a few of us were discussing recently about the characters -- they have all gone through incredible dramatic shifts in personality rather quickly. I understand the evolution of a character and of people in general, but Alex is now a sweetheart? Addison is passionless? Derek is mean and gloating? Even Cristina was nice for a while - although her cold as ice demeanor was dead on last night!! What do you think? Have the characters changed too quickly for you or is it a natural progression that most people make?

Favorite quote of the night:

Why are you being modest? Modest looks weird on you.
- George to Cristina

Where the Boys Are

This one really made me think about those things that happen that change everything. You can be sailing along happily in life and the next minute everything can change...sometime for the better, sometime for the worse. One moment a happy couple is expecting a baby, the next they lose a child; Callie sleeps with Sloane and changes everything with George; a man decides to be a woman and gets breast cancer, the worst female experience you can imagine; Derek decides to make up, Meredith ALMOST chooses the wrong man again, but she kisses Derek instead and breaks all the negative karma swirling around on this episode!!!!!! !THANK GOODNESS...Let the healing begin.

Swtich gears.....Watching Addison struggle with telling the happy couple that their baby had died was hard to watch. God, having to deliver a dead baby. Horrific. Knock me out and wake me in a year. Break me and break my heart. How can doctors continue to perform these procedures? I would never survive. Addison just seems to keep getting knocked down every turn she makes. She lost Derek, McSteamy has now slept with Callie and he is in strong pursuit of Meredith. He is a skank. Simple. Stay far, far away from him. I doubt he has ever had a broken heart in his life.

And just a question to any medical readers out there....Are doctors really as cocky as so many of these doctors seem to act? McSteamy is so cocky, Cristina is, Preston is, Alex is -- where does it end? Cristina said she was too good to help a boy. Are they really that way?

Did you notice that Izzie's counselor is the airline attendant with sticks in her hair in Meet the Fockers. She is so great at playing annoying.

I thought the whole camping setup was pretty funny. Even though they all went to the woods trying to find something else within themselves, they really couldn't escape their true selves. Richard dining on pate, Alex couldn't hold back telling George about Callie, and ultimately, they end up in surgery. They are just as uptight while "relaxing" as they are working. You can't run away from your true being....you are who ya are!

And my favorite quote of the night:

"This is my crap, Bailey assigned me this crap" -- Cristina

Ham and Eggs???

You're not going to believe this. I already wrote this once... and got to the VERY end and lost it. Don't you HATE it when that happens? Argh.
Ok - here goes (again):

So am I the only one who just DID NOT get the whole 'Ham and Eggs' thing? Maybe it was a guy thing. It didn't make any sense at all to me. The ONLY thing I liked about it was the dialogue it set up between George and Callie. (Seriously. Should you ever - under any circumstance - use the word 'PIG' in a conversation with a woman you're trying to woo? Uh. No.) It was pretty funny. As for that whole relationship, I think Callie is smart to keep backing up. She's right. Unless George is ready to catch her, he shouldn't keep chasing. And I thought it was pretty clear by his face when she said that... he's not ready.

Back to Ham and Eggs. The guy whose fiancee had the two uteruses made me CRY when he went back to her after she delivered their son... even though she was still carrying a baby girl that wasn't his. Wow. That's a real man.

So that leads me to Derek. I love him. Don't get me wrong. But WHAT is going on with him?
He needs SPACE?
Excuse me!?
Men don't need SPACE!
He wants Meredith.
And... She ditched Mr. Nice Guy for him!
What am I missing?
And he'd better get a move on before McSteamy moves in.
(BTW, from now on, I've dubbed him "McSleazy.")
In the next episode Meredith is going to be working with Mark rather closely while the "guys" take a bonding moment and go camping. Let's just hope there's no tequila lying around.
As for the next episode, I'm not sure how excited I am to watch a bunch of guys hanging out in nature... but I'll probably tune in just to see Derek in a cute fishing getup.

A little sidebar rant, here: Can I be a bit catty? What is UP with Meredith's hair? Is it me or does it look like she needs a decent color job and a shampoo? Sorry, I digress.

No Need to Panic

Well all the Mer/Der fans can breathe a bit easier. The awkward! moment we're seeing in the promos with McDreamy and somebody O'Malley dubs "McHottie"... well... it seems she may be Derek's SISTER who's popped in for a surprise visit. And... since the lovely trailer Derek lives in is barely larger than a beer can, she's sitting on his BED. Whew.
