From a Whisper to a Scream
The episode may have been called “From a Whisper to a Scream” – but I think “Betrayal” might have been better-suited.
Everything about this episode screamed that.
I know I lost my bet (with myself) that a nurse would be the one to eventually bust Burke… Then I thought it would be Bailey. Even with the tremor scene in the fishing outdoors episode, I didn’t see it coming that George would turn out to be such a beast. (Good for him, though. I liked it that he wasn’t a wuss when it came to his father’s health.)
But Cristina?
Et tu Brute?
Well. She did the right thing.
My question is… why didn’t she do it sooner?
Answer? ‘Cause she’s Cristina!
I’ve said all along that Cristina looks out ONLY for Cristina, and to me, that act just proved it. She kept telling herself – and Burke – she was covering for the man she loves. She knew that he couldn’t be Preston Burke if he couldn’t be a surgeon and all that blah blah he laid on her. She was protecting him, right?
Helping him.
Crossing the line with him.
NO!
And believe me, he’s not off the hook, either. Excuse me? What was the crap Burke said to Cristina about “dragging him” across the line.” I wanted to reach through my TV and slap him.
I really had hope that he was going to set things right, himself. And it seemed he was going to… eventually. So, I’m sure he felt betrayed to find out his lover, his friend, his confidante and partner in crime and surgery told the chief of his tremor FIRST.
Seems they bost forgot the first line of the Hippocratic Oath: “First, do no harm…”
It doesn’t mean “do no harm” to your career.
And the scene where Burke closes the door on Cristina, who after much soul searching decided to go home… Ouch. That’s over. Then again… did we really ever expect those two to work long-term? They’re both too focused on themselves. And in the end, that’s what it came down to for Cristina, in my view. “Him.. or me?”
Now to George... Was he a big stud in this episode or what? I didn’t like his nastiness, but I understood it. I think the only area where I felt sick to my stomach was the way he dressed down Izzie in front of his parents by bringing up Denny. That was over the line. But I just love how George and Izzie still love each other as best friends.
And speaking of best friends. I can totally understand why Meredith wanted to protect Cristina’s secret. She had every right to, and when Derek confronted her on it… she pretty much put him in his place. He betrayed HER. He has to earn his right to be “Numero Uno” in her life.
Wow… this one was hard to watch. But that’s what I LOVE about “Grey’s” … it makes me feel something, and it’s a cup I look forward to drinking from each and every week.
