Don't Stand So Close to Me

Did you cry?
Didya?
Admit it.
You did.
Something in Thursday's episode, "Don't Stand So Close to Me," touched a nerve.
I know I felt it.
So... could you GUESS the recurring theme?
Anger. ANGER!
Everybody was so damn ANGRY.
But really, it was about Love and Forgiveness.
Donchathink?
That's what it spoke to me.
I believe Anger would not exist without Love.
They're polar opposites, those emotions. The thing is, without Love and Anger, you'd have Indifference, and who wants to be dead inside?
Love. Anger. Forgiveness.
The trilogy of Life, if you ask me.
The anger in this episode burned through to me.

How could it not? "Grey's" touched just about every possible relationship: a mother, a father, a brother, a sister, a friend, a lover, a co-worker.
Geez, EVERYBODY was angry.
But then, everybody had something to lose. Something or someone they loved.

My heart just broke for Meredith. Suspending the reality that this whole thing is "make-believe," I wonder how Meredith became such a loving, giving, caring person given her upbringing. What a stab to the heart to sit there and hear your very own mother tell you, in her Alzheimer's-induced mania, that, 'I never should have had a kid,' because Richard didn't want kids. Ouch. Don't you think Meredith BECAME a surgeon as a way to win her mother's love and approval?
I really, really, really wanted Meredith to give in and let her "second family" into her life. She was there for her own niece's birth! She has a (half)sister and an apparently loving step-mother. What a choice she made to emphatically state, "You are not my family." But it's understandable, given the fact her father is such a schmuck he didn't even acknowledge her really. I'd be pissed, too, if my half-sister didn't know I existed! But I'm rambling.

The part that made me cry was O'Malley's dad. Wow. Did he cut through the BS or what.
"I know you're mad at me," he said.
What a moment.

And what a major breakthrough for Burke and Cristina.
I'll admit. I'm with Bailey. I'm surprised there was nothing done to them.
I just LOVE Bailey. Her sense of right and wrong and what's professional is unwavering. She's incredible, and I felt her anger when she realized the people who had hurt HER... were skating. Kudos for Richard for helping put it in perspective.
Although, I have to say, I'm REALLY surprised at how Cristina's decision to tell on Burke was characterized as courageous. Was it? I'm I being to hard on her?

And along the lines of love, anger and forgiveness, it looks like the ice is cracking between George and Callie.

Some other random notes:
YOU GO GIRL, Izzie for refusing to be McSteamy's Step-N-Fetch for coffee or whatever. Paid off, too!

I loved how McSneaky it was of Bailey to let Cristina do O'Malley's dad's surgery only to reward the other interns (minus George who was tied up with other matters) with the conjoined twins case!

And I don't want to dismiss that fabulous twins plotline. So MANY layers to that. But can I say the whole sex talk with conjoined twins kinda grossed me out.

Anyway... Since it looks like next week is a rerun, here's your chance to tell us what YOU think about things: about this episode.. about where the characters and storylines are going. About all of it.
WRITE!
Ciao.

PS- I missed the whole "Double-0-7" reference O'Malley made when he refused to apologize or forgive Cristina (yet). What was that?

As I recall, the 007 reference was that he had "a license to kill"...right? He blew some procedure or other and nearly killed the patient.

And yeah, that sex with Siamese twins thing was pretty darned gross!

Oh my goodness! I thought I was watching myself when Bailey tried to exit the Chiefs office. The twitching eyes, the sputtering lips and that rolling neck...excellent performance. I felt her confusion and thus the pain.

The bigger problem for me...O'Malley! I'm through! Why isn't anyone crucifying him? His dad, you say? Please! He needs to be "-itch slapped." If his character is to continue in this, I won't be able to watch anymore! Kudos to George, but, not thanks!

How come ABC don't keep the shows on the site for more than 1 day, Fridays only. I was in CA and the time zone is so different than were I am and I was just to exhausted to stay awake and watch them, I don't own a Tivo or a dvd player or even a vcr.

I'm not sure where you were looking, but click on the link below that takes you to another spot in the ABC Grey's Anatomy section. Check out drop-down menu of "Episodes." As of this writing, the Nov 30th episode was not there, yet, but check back. It has episodes all the way back to September. Hope this helps.

Thanks for writing and Happy watching!

It was an amazing episode, no doubt. George is angry and has a right to be but he shouldn't be soooo mad at Callie, a sweet girl who is genuine.

My best part, besides Bailey demanding "justice" was with Preston and Christina. Man, Oh can act, all day and night and the two of them are worth the price of admission every day of the week.

It was an outstanding show.
