"Haunt You Every Day" reflections
Does anybody remember the game Sesame Street shows children called "Which one doesn't belong?" That's the first thing that came to me after watching this week's show.
What doesn't belong?
The foot. The relationship. The ashes. The no-eared boy. Single-again Derek. Single-again Chief. The intern. The heart.
Before I get into that though... first let me say that the boy who Trick-or-Treated for ears (Ryan) was phenomenal. (Where was his mother, though... still in the cafeteria... seriously?) He's Dylan Minnette, and I knew I'd seen him somewhere before. For such a little guy, he has quite the repertoire. Most recently, I'd seen him as the cute, precocious nephew on TNT's "Saving Grace." What an amazing kid he must be. On the screen, he's fantastic, adorable, funny, clever, sweet. Off-screen, I can only imagine what a hoot he must be. He stole the show for me.
Can I just say I'm SO glad Rebecca wanted to be "Ava" for Halloween. What a reunion, huh? I had to back that sucker up and watch it again.
So tender. Electric. Almost satisfying. We GA fans needed a little of that following all of the ups and downs with MerDer. Such a sweet moment when Alex found the shirt Rebecca had left for him... *sigh*...
Love the hard-a$$ heart surgeon. That's going to be fun to watch. Boy Cristina had a rude awakening, didn't she? And I'm with Izzie on this one: Turnabout is fair play. Cristina is great at dishing it out but she's not great at taking it.
Loved the gigglefest with Callie and Cristina in the O.R. ... laughing about their pathetic love lives. I mean... what else are you going to do when your life is a wreck? You can fall apart. You can get angry. You can move on. Or at least try. So why not laugh?
What a slut Mark Sloan is... telling Callie he's available "night or day" to help her. Puleezz. No wonder the nurses started their little club against him. That's hysterical. Then... was it just me? Or did anybody else think he was hitting on Meredith before the ears surgery? He HAS to stay away from her. He just rekindled his friendship with Derek. He cannot go there! She can't either, right?
Bailey... please don't lose your family. She may be the Mama Bear for the core GA crew, but she is still a real mother to a Little Guy. My heart really ached for her when she fought with her husband. Career vs. Family. Tough one. Always.
Major headway between Lexie and Meredith when they connected over their dead mothers. Both of their stories have major "eewww" factors. They MUST be related.
The one part that had Big Ol' Alligator Tears rolling down my face was when Meredith finally, finally laid her mother to rest. At face value, it's disgusting... in essence, flushing her mother down a sink. The reality was Meredith knew that's exactly where her mother would want to be. That's where she chose to be all of Meredith's life. That was the center of Ellis' world when she was alive, and I'm so glad Richard was there to share it with Meredith. He is possibly the only other person in Meredith's world - in THE world - who could understand. It was beautiful, really. The quiet, non-ceremony for Ellis. I wonder if either Meredith or Richard will ever get enough distance from her poisonous love. I hope so. I hope so much that this is a threshold Meredith crosses to walk toward greater, happier things.
What else...Oh...
LOONY: It IS crazy to cut one's foot off with a chainsaw ... on purpose!
ANNOYING: The happy-go-lucky resident flirting with Derek made my skin crawl.
DEVASTATING: The man accepted a heart from his own daughter! That would haunt me every day.
TRIUMPHANT: Izzie and George DID make it through the day. Although, I had to wonder ... if they wondered ... as I wonder - "Okay, now what?"
