"Let the Truth Sting"

1011_merelexie200.jpgFinally... some middle ground.
The Grey girls managed to bridged a major gap this week. It was interesting to see the hopeful, happy-go-lucky, isn't-life-grand Lexie reveal her dark and twisty side. In earlier episodes, she desperately wanted to be her Big Sister's friend. But this week, she seemed sour. Sad. We all know why. I mean, she lost her mother in that hospital for crying out loud. Her sister treated her mother. When the two finally came together to go over the chart, I welled up with tears, too. It was a clinical approach to a relationship, but it was something. I'm starting to like this... a lot.
This episode certainly lived up to its title, though. Not only with Meredith and Lexie, but with the -- shall we say -- "mature" intern and Alex. I wanted to slap that guy. Not Alex. The other one. The fatherly intern with run-off-at-the-mouth disease. Lordy. He was wearing on my nerve. Pretty funny though.
1011_baileyalex200.jpgBailey's acceptance of being Number Two -- "The best damned Number Two this hospital has ever seen" -- killed me a little bit. I know. I know! It was the right thing to do, and once again, Bailey rises above everything and everyone for the Greater Good. But gee whiz! It's not fair! If Callie isn't cutting it then why SHOULD Bailey carry her? Life's not fair. And there is a pecking order for a reason... I get it. Dang it.
Alex didn't seem to have too much trouble slipping back into his calloused ways of dealing with co-workers. Revealing George's secret in the elevator was mean. 1011_oldintern200x264.jpg Somebody needed to do it... yes. But it was mean. Cold! He's really showing his chops as a doctor, though. How gross was that procedure he performed on the kid! (That eyeball was very life-like, by the way... Ewww.) Hero!
My favorite part of this week's show was meeting "Really Old Guy." Yes, his name is/was Charlie. I loved him. What a mess he was. He certainly doled out a dose of reality to Izzie about her relationship with George, didn't he? Zing! And he still managed to carry out his own destiny, in his own way. And in the eulogy, I almost shot Diet Coke through my nose when Dear Sweet Bambish Izzie called him a "bastard." But you know? She was right, and she saw the real Charlie.
On to Cristina. Okay, I'm so mad at her for faking sadness to get surgeries. I know that is just like her. That is her personality. Get-ahead Cristina. And I still think she's due for a real breakdown. A real crack in the armor is coming. But in this case, Meredith (for once) really tried to consider someone else's -- her best friend's -- feelings by keeping her fling with Derek to herself. I mean, there's no way those two can hide their feelings and everybody's going to know it anyway, but still! Her heart was in the right place. It kinda ticked me off that Cristina took advantage of that. She didn't seem like a real friend in that moment.
Speaking of Derek... Boy, he really smacked Mark and the Chief for giving in to their "Old Man" complex and taking risks with a woman's ability to ever speak again. He was right. It seemed a little out of place to me, though, especially since he can't face his own reality... his own issues with Meredith. But it's always easier to point fingers at someone else and bring their faults into focus.
Wasn't that the message with the Tongue Cancer Patient and her friends?
The truth hurts. But we need to hear it. I suppose we do, anyway.
So my cold hard truth is that I wish the whole George and Callie (and Izzie) thing would end as quickly as this week's episode did.
But I've seen the previews. Get ready for a chick rumble in the cafeteria.
Okay... I'll stick around for that.
