Ohh, this one was good
"The Heart of the Matter" transported us back to the Pre-Dark and Twisty Days of appreciating - no, LOVING - Grey's Anatomy. Would you agree?
I think we all secretly wanted to see a chick fight between Izzie and Callie, didn't we? But it really wasn't a surprise when the two met face-to-face in the cafeteria at noon and (awkward!) Callie was dumbfounded by Izzie's interpretation. A fist fight? Really?! Callie is too much of a grownup for her own good. She really deserved to put the beat down on Izzie even if George was to blame, as well, for her pain. Forgiving George seemed to be the right, grownup, wifely thing to do. So she mulled over, considered and decided to do just that. But deep down, we're all human. Mortal. Vulnerable. Easily wounded when it comes to matters of the heart. We saw that when Callie nearly ripped apart the boyfriend of the girl who - pretty much - starved herself to death for his love. Callie couldn't lash out directly at those close to her who have hurt her. Bailey - God love her - is trying to help Callie. But Callie will have none of it. She can handle it herself. I secretly applauded when Callie did finally face Izzie. I'm a huge Izzie fan, but seeing Callie lay down the law made me cheer for her. Izzie is lovable and fallible and downright goofy sometimes. But she is such a child, and she is selfish. And good for Alex for letting her have it, too!
Maybe that's why Izzie and George have this chemistry and connection (which still eludes me). I haven't been the biggest Callie fan thus far, but she really won me over this week. It just isn't fair when a strong, successful woman who has done everything right gets slapped in the face and stabbed in the heart by someone she loves.
The other tragedy is Meredith.
What is wrong with this woman? Dr. Derek Shepherd stands there telling her that he loves her, wants to marry her, wants to have children with her... and she so obviously wants to turn and run at the sound of those words. He's slowing bleeding out with every little knick she makes on his heart. She's killing his love, and in a way, she's killing him. Again, it's not fair. He has done and is doing everything right. Yes, in the first season he lied about being married... But other than that, he's committed no sin other than loving an emotionally unavailable woman. He actually realized what and who he needs and wants. Yet he's the one suffering because the object of his affection just won't let him love her and won't let herself be loved. I know there are damaged people in this world. Meredith Grey is certainly representative of them, but as much as I love MerDer, I'm starting to agree with Mark. Derek needs to move on. I can't believe I said that. It's just that I so want him to receive the love he deserves.
I do wonder if "The World's Oldest Intern" holds the key to Meredith's padlocked heart. Not romantically! I just think he sees her for who she is. He seems to get her. He seems to know she needs to let go of herself a little bit. She needs to feel. Yell, even. Somehow he knows, and (I think) she's listening. Maybe it's the whole "fatherly" thing, but I have hope here. I'm not entirely ready to give up on MerDer... not just yet.
Speaking of Derek... boy he gave Cristina a whopping dose of humility, didn't he? He, shall we say, "helped" Cristina realize that she doesn't get to run the show and only be a surgical star. She learned the hard way that a large part of her role is not just to "do"... but to "teach." This lesson - at least - wasn't as emotionally painful as some of her others. Only her pride got hurt, this time.
Movable Type 4.1
it's BACK! back back back! this episode was absolutely amazing, i almost couldn't ask for better. and do you know WHAT is back? the MAGIC is back. i'm hooked. so glad i didn't give up grey's.
and GOOOOOOOO Callie! her speech really touched me, it was strong, but so, so painful. she really loves george, you know.
and poor Alex...i understand how he feels. he was all ready to take izzie into in arms, and she picks...the short best friend?
my heart feels for Alex and Callie. i hope it gets better for them.
and the McDreamy speech. what can be better than an ending like that? that's an ultimate love declaration right there. i knew he wasn't going for the shy sister Lexie. if my boyfriend made a speech like that to me i'd marry him! i hope Meredith gets over her insecurities...
the sneak peak for next weekend looks pretty sweet! i might just have to give up trick or treating to watch it...can't wait!
